SKILLS > Former Gifted Kid, so while he never had the chance to attend university, by the time of the Fall, his parents already had him reading first year university level physics and chemistry; everything else, he's learned along the way, absorbing from established scientists and his own studies. Fantastic baker (it's science!); fantastic bakee (🚬🌿). Can use a firearm passably well, but he'd rather put one together from assorted pieces. Has conversational Russian, which he practices with dochenka. His Swedish is better. Can fix all sorts of things.

• Tove and Oskar, scientists who'd come up through Finland's firmly established military system, never thought their work would end up bringing them as close to the Architects as it did. When realisation hit, so too did the bombs in quick succession, but the couple had just enough foresight to bundle their only child to perceived safety before the Fall, entrusting him to the leadership of what would become the Dislinked movement. And so, in 2005, a twelve year old Nim entered one of the resistance's earliest strongholds, and was effectively orphaned the moment his parents' military project went dark.

• Those early days were marked by countless near misses, the compressed lessons the adults tried to hold for the children in this makeshift creche cut abruptly short whenever a drone was detected nearby. Nim soon learned how to stop asking after his parents. When he ran out of reading material, he took himself to the workshop and tried to put theory into practice by learning how the machines they brought through the door could be put together again after being pulled apart. He learned what he could, when he could, however he could.

• In 7 AI, Dr Verin finally granted him permission to come aboard Mnemosyne. At 20, he was younger than most, but he argued that his parents would have wanted him supporting the cause at its center, rather than have him sit out on the sidelines. (Privately, Nim thinks his parents actually wouldn't care, but hey, they're not around to ask so they fully don't get an opinion.) He slotted into the ongoing work that would bring the ship to full operational status, and has been a fixture on board ever since, though whether it's a point of pride or shame that he knows the ship and the ships it harbors better than he understands most people remains unclear.
